THE HUMAN IN THE LOOP

I built SPOTTED because I can't help but see the gaps.

Beth Crain as a child, in western show clothes and a white hat, seated on a dark horse with a white blaze in a grass paddock.

It started with bad marketing in my rural Minnesota hometown. Small ma-and-pa cafes serving cold chocolate milk with menus full of typos. Tree-lined billboards that could have used another round of proofreading. Brands with accidental double entendres. All of it had me asking the same thing:

Did they talk to anyone…really anyone, even a friend or family member, before they made that brand choice?

Ok, I didn't ask it just like that at ten years old. But, it caught my attention early, and I'm still basically asking the same question. I am hardwired to see the world as it should be and as it is. It allows me to see around corners and makes me good at what I do. It also makes errors, gaps, and inconsistencies stand out like a blue horse. Those same errors, gaps, and inconsistencies are what AI finds and can lead to hallucinations about your brand.

With AI in the mix, now the thing forming an impression of your brand and repeating it to the world isn't a neighbor who misread your sign. It's a machine that will confidently tell thousands of people something about you that isn't true.

I spent almost twenty years in the regulated industries of law, government, and medical devices. I learned to traverse silos, manage multi-million dollar budgets, work with top-tier media, and translate technical jargon into something a real person could understand. Regulated industries taught me a claim you can't stand behind is a liability, not a message. That discipline is in everything SPOTTED does.

Why SPOTTED, and why a human in the loop

I started Spotted Pony PR to focus on the human connections between brands and the people who need them, not PR as usual, but the companion strategy that keeps a brand looking and sounding like itself wherever it's found. SPOTTED is that idea, made measurable.

I want your organization to succeed and thrive. I want everyone that needs your brand to know about it. And I want you to have the reputation you have earned honestly. I didn't create SPOTTED for AI. But, the more I have tested it, I have found that it is built for this moment to help you watch over the brand you built.

The truth is AI can now damage a brand faster than any bad billboard ever could, and it can do it silently. A generative engine can invent a controversy, attach a lawsuit that never happened, or quietly sand the distinctiveness off of who you are, and you may not know until the lost business shows up in your numbers. That's not a ranking problem. It's a trust problem.

So I built SPOTTED around a standard that puts intention before automation. The human in the loop or HITL. Let AI do the legwork. It researches how you're actually being interpreted across search, reviews, and the AI assistants themselves. But no score becomes real until the HITL confirms it, with written reasoning. The judgment, the context, and the accountability all remain human.

What's with the horses?

My earliest lessons came from the backs of wild-hearted ponies and extraordinary horses. The spotted pony and race horse theme of my own brand originates from a dappled, young race horse that my grandparents owned, named Go Get Reddy. Red for short. It seems an appropriate mascot for my work.

A 1975 photo-finish strip. The typed caption reads: Go Get Reddy, E. A. Draxton owner, M. Estenson trainer, 330 yards, 2 year olds, Wadena Minnesota, 6-29-75, L. Orrell up. Run Chic Run second, Go Like Thunder third, time 18.22.

It's easy to see horses as strong, bold, and powerful. What you have to experience is their ability to feel and respond to human emotion and their confident sense of self. A pony will buck you off if it doesn't like what you're doing, not much different than an audience who loses trust.

My passion is to support organizations of all shapes and sizes in protecting what they have worked hard to build, no matter who or what interprets their brand.

There's a lot of work to be done and it's time to go get ready.

Head up. Heels down.
